The Lynchburg Hillcats were trying to extend their winning streak to a season-long four, but instead they were battered for 11 hits in an 11-3 loss to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans Tuesday night at BB&T Coastal Field.
Hillcats starting pitcher Brian Holliday gave up six earned runs on six hits in four innings. He was charged with the loss to drop his record to 1-6 on the season.
Pelicans right fielder Conception Rodriguez went 3 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs. First baseman Paul Bennett and designated hitter Jon Owings each drove in two runs.
Myrtle Beach starting pitcher Kyle Cofield improved to 4-4 with his six hit effort. He walked five and struck out three. Relief pitcher Michael Broadway pitched three and one-third inning of scoreless relief to pick up his first save.
Hillcats catcher Steve Lerud had a hit and two RBIs.
Third baseman Jim Negrych went 2 for 3 with a run scored.
Lynchburg (26-39) heads home for a four-game homestand against the Kinston Indians. The first game is tonight at 7:05 p.m. at City Stadium.
