LCA's Antic, Musa sign D-I basketball scholarships

Jelena Antic and Hanka Musa, Liberty Christian Academy senior girls basketball standouts from Macedonia, signed full scholarships to Division I programs Friday morning at LCA.

Antic, a 6-foot-3 point guard who had verbally committed to Liberty University last winter, officially signed with the Flames.

Jelena is the best female basketball player I’ve ever seen or coached,” said LCA first-year coach Mike Morris, who coached the Bulldogs’ JV boys team last year after coaching varsity boys and girls teams for 18 years in New Brunswick, Canada, just north of Maine. “She’ll be a real good fit for (Liberty). She’s a very hard player to guard because she’s a 6-3 player with the dribbling skills and speed of a 5-5 guard.”

Musa, a 6-4 post player, signed her letter of intent to Centenary College, a 900-student Division I school in Shreveport, La.

“She’s a very tall, athletic and intelligent girl who passes well in the post,” Morris said. “She has a very soft touch on her shot and inside of 10 feet, she’s golden.”

Musa was recruited by second-year assistant coach Bojan Jankovic, who had coached Antic in Serbia and seen Antic and Musa play on the Macedonian national team.

“There’s a comfort level with a coach who speaks her own language,” Morris said.

The Ladies finished 5-25 in Steve Curtis’ first season as head coach, but made their first trip to the Mid-Continent Conference Tournament.
