Brookville senior running back Stacey Houston, who gained 445 yards in the past three wins over Salem (143), Lord Botetourt (150) and William Byrd (223), firmly established himself as the area’s leading rusher with a 223-yard, four-touchdown effort Friday night in a 28-6 triumph over visiting Rustburg.

He scored two touchdowns in the first quarter and two in the fourth, with Dylan Tordoff tacking on all four PATs, to help the Bees pull away from the Red Devils on a night when they celebrated the 60th anniversary of their program with the introduction of eight members of the inaugural 1948 team, eight of its 12 head coaches, including fifth-year coach Jeff Woody, and five of its principals, including Dr. Jim Whorley, who has served in that role since 1994.

Quarterback Logan Thomas also rushed nine times for 79 yards and completed two passes for 43 as Brookville improved to 6-0 overall, 2-0 in Seminole District play. The Bees picked up twice as many first downs as Rustburg (16-8) and picked up close to twice as much yardage (367-193) on one fewer play from scrimmage (41-42).

Rustburg (1-4, 0-2), coming off its first win at Hidden Valley, rushed for 125 yards on 39 carries, with QB Tevin Cobbs and running back Jason Campbell also combining to complete three passes for 68 yards, two to Chris Anderson for 58.

Altavista 32, Nelson County 20

Altavista quarterback Johnny Wimbish rushed seven times for 83 yards and three touchdowns and running back Jamison Robinson carried 19 times for 115 yards and two more scores to lift the Colonels to victory in the Dogwood District opener at home.

Though Wimbish didn’t complete a pass in two attempts, he didn’t have to as Altavista racked up 371 yards rushing on 48 attempts.

Nelson County countered with quarterback M.J. Wells, who completed nine of 16 passing attempts for 91 yards and two touchdowns — a 31-yard strike to Cameron Coles and 10-yarder to Jordan Wooten for the game’s final score. He also rushed from the 9-yard line for the Governors’ second touchdown in the fourth quarter, cutting into Altavista’s 32-6 advantage.

VES 55, Fishburne Military 6

The Bishops opened with a 28-point first quarter and pounded visiting Fishburne behind Ed Eichmann’s four touchdowns.

Eichmann scored on runs of 16, 29, 21 and 26 as VES improved to 3-2. Bennett King posted the Bishops’ first TD with a 5-yard reception from QB Daniel Alexander. Alexander hooked up with Zach Jones later in the first quarter on a 28-yard TD pass.

John Blair returned a fumble 20 yards for a score and Jordan Roberts had a 15-yard TD run. Trey Fuqua made the most of his one carry on the night, scampering 50 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter.

VES out-rushed Fishburne 215-93 and had an 123-14 advantage in passing yards.

Eichmann led all rushers with 136 yards on 8 carries.

Amherst 41, Freedom 7
