PLAYER OF THE GAME: Making his first Carolina League start, Winston-Salem RHP Johnnie Lowe shut down the Hillcats, allowing one hit and no runs in 5 1/3 innings. He said the key was throwing his two-seam fastball for strikes.

DASH RHP JOHNNIE LOWE SAYS: “I pretty much was just expecting a little bit more disciplined hitters and a little bit smaller strike zone as you move up. I just wanted to go out and establish early on the corners and see how the hitters reacted to the movement on the pitches and just go from there. Obviously, I want to work on the control (he issued six walks) and make the hitters get themselves out. Overall, for the first start of the year, I felt pretty good about it.”
