Justin Wilson pitched a gem for Lynchburg on Sunday night, with seven shutout innings and 11 strikeouts in a 3-0 victory against Myrtle Beach at City Stadium.
Wilson (6-7) gave up only five hits and walked none. Harrison Bishop kept the Pelicans scoreless for the final two innings, earning his second save and preserving the shutout.
Offensively, the Hillcats did their damage early — one run in the first inning and two in the third — and that proved to be more than enough for Wilson and Bishop.
Josh Harrison scored Lynchburg’s first run on a sacrifice fly by Matt Hague in the bottom of the first. The Hillcats added two more runs in the third on an RBI double by Jordy Mercer, who later came around to score on Hague’s groundout to short.
Myrtle Beach starter Erik Cordier (6-6) took the loss. He allowed three runs on three hits and three walks. He also threw two wild pitches and hit three batters, two in the bottom of the first.
Lynchburg is off today and begins a three-game series Tuesday at Salem.
