Freshman forward Derrick Woods-Morrow posted game-high totals of 19 points and 13 rebounds, his third double-double of the season, to lead host Randolph College to a thrilling 69-68 overtime victory over Washington College in non-conference action Monday night.
Woods-Morrow, a 6-foot-4 forward from Greensboro, N.C., was one of four WildCats to reach double figures in scoring.
Randolph (2-9) also got 14 points and a season-high seven rebounds from Pete Hamilton, 12 points, five rebounds, and seven assists from Timothy Clarke and 10 points from Jason Rutschman.
The WildCats opened the second half on a 7-0 run to extend their lead to 40-30 with 16:26 left, but the Shoremen (4-5) cut the deficit to 47-45 on a three-pointer by Doug Holcombe.
Woods-Morrow flexed his muscle down low, collecting an offensive rebound off a missed jumper by Clarke and dunking it home, putting the WildCats back on top, 54-52. After a Rutschman 3-pointer and another Woods-Morrow putback, Washington College rattled off six straight points to cut the lead to 59-58 with just 1:48 left in regulation.
The Shoremen took advantage of several WildCats missed free-throws before Tim Kohlrus, who recorded a team-high 18 points and nine rebounds, sank a 15-foot jumper with two seconds left to tie it at 61-61 and force overtime.
In the extra period, Randolph used four points from Clarke and improved free-throw shooting to outscore Washington, 8-7.
