Despite two home runs from Lastings Milledge, his first in a Lynchburg uniform while on a rehabilitation assignment, the Hillcats lost to Carolina League Northern Division second-half leader Potomac for the third day in a row, 8-4 on Wednesday at Pfitzner Stadium.
Milledge, who was acquired by Pittsburgh on June 30 in a trade with the Washington Nationals, homered in his first and last at-bats, a solo shot in the first off Potomac Nationals starter Adam Carr and a two-run blast in the seventh off reliever Cole Kimball, tying the game at 4-4.
After suffering his fifth blown save, Kimball picked up the win to improve to 3-5.
Jordy Mercer also homered for the first-half divisional champion Hillcats, who have gone 6-13 to slip to to 6½ games behind Potomac in the second-half standings.
Paul Mildren took the loss for Lynchburg, giving up four runs on three hits in an inning and a third of relief of starter Matt McSwain, including two-run homers by Michael Burgess and Brian Peacock in the seventh and eighth, respectively.
