SALEM — Jordy Mercer hit his eighth home run of the season, Matt McSwain picked up his seventh win and Lynchburg ended Salem’s three-game winning streak with a 4-2 victory Sunday.

Mercer was 2-for-4 at the plate, including a double that scored Chase D’Arnaud in the Hillcats’ two-run fourth inning.

First baseman Matt Hague, who was also 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs, drove in a run in the fourth, giving the Hillcats a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

Lynchburg (47-26) added to its lead in the sixth when Hague reached on a fielder’s choice that scored Jose De Los Santos.

Mercer’s solo shot in the eighth closed out the scoring.

McSwain pitched five strong innings, allowing seven hits and fanning three. He improves to 7-3 on the year.

Bryan Price took the loss for Salem, which suffered its first loss of the second half of the season. Price is still looking for his first victory of the season.

The two teams square off again tonight in Salem at 7:05 p.m. The Hillcats are expected to start Chi-Hung Cheng.
