A quartet of Winston-Salem Dash pitchers combined to allow only four hits and strike out 11 in a 4-3 win over the Lynchburg Hillcats at Wake Forest Baseball Park on Wednesday night.
Starter Daniel Hudson struck out six and allowed two hits and two earned runs in earning his first win with the Dash (16-16). And relievers Henry Mabee, Wander Perez and Santo Luis teamed up to pitch the final four innings, allowing only four baserunners (two hits, two walks) while striking out five.
Lynchburg (20-12) and the Potomac Nationals (20-12), who beat the Salem Red Sox 4-2 on Wednesday, are now tied for first place atop the Carolina League’s Northern Division standings.
Second baseman Ray Chang provided all the offense for the Hillcats. He had two hits, including a double, and drove in all three runs. Shortstop Jordy Mercer and left fielder Jared Keel had Lynchburg’s other two hits.
The Hillcats play the Dash again today at 11 a.m. in the final game of a seven-game road trip. They return to City Stadium on Friday for the first of three games against the Wilmington Blue Rocks.
Despite Wednesday’s loss, Lynchburg is 4-2 on its current road swing and has won eight of its last 10.
