The Hillcats received a solid outing from starting pitcher Paul Mildren, who allowed two runs on eight hits in six innings, and reliever Moises Robles (two scoreless innings), but their offense stalled in a 3-2 loss to the Frederick Keys on Thursday at Harry Grove Stadium.
Lynchburg (25-15), the Carolina League’s Northern Division leader, lost its second straight game to last-place Frederick (19-21) and saw its series win streak end at four. It opens a three-game series at Potomac today at 7:05.
Hillcats third baseman Pedro Alvarez hit two doubles and drove in a run, and left fielder Jared Keel had an RBI sacrifice fly to provide the Hillcats only offense against Keys starter Pedro Beato (five hits, two earned runs in six innings) and three Frederick relievers (two hits, no runs in three innings).
Lynchburg center fielder Maiko Loyola went 2-for-3 with a stolen base.
