Liberty scores 31 unanswered points, rolls over Glass

Liberty quarterback Tyler Boyer threw two touchdown passes and ran for another in the Minutemen’s 41-7 blowout win over host E.C. Glass on Friday night.

Liberty (5-1, 2-1 Seminole) scored 31 unanswered points and held the Hilltoppers (1-6, 1-2) to one first down and 28 yards in the second half.

Boyer accounted for 165 of Liberty’s 388 yards. He started the scoring off in the first quarter with an 11-yard touchdown run. The Hilltoppers answered with a 1-yard Traves Wesley run, but the Minutemen went on a scoring binge to put the game out of reach.

Anthony Reynolds caught two touchdowns from Boyer, and Malcolm McCoy scored two rushing yards.

James Gaines had 168 of E.C. Glass’ 185 yards (71 rushing and 93 passing).

Appomattox 28, William Campbell 14

NARUNA — Joe Reed scored on two touchdown runs in the Raiders’ Dogwood District win over the Generals.

J.J. Rose caught a touchdown pass from Appomattox quarterback Kenny Scott and Mark Wright returned an interception for a touchdown.

Marcus Alexander scored on a 3-yard run in the second quarter for the Generals (2-4, 0-2 Dogwood), and they cut the score to 16-14 in the third quarter on Terrence Younger’s 4-yard pass from Devante Easley.

The Raiders (5-1, 2-0) scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to break open the game.

Amherst 58, Bassett 14

BASSETT — The game got out of hand early, with the Lancers (6-0) taking a 34-0 first-quarter lead.

Lancers quarterback Kirby Anderson scored on a 42-yard touchdown run and on a 60-yard interception return. He also tossed a 52-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Rose.

Amherst running back Jamar Glover had touchdown runs of 7 and 40 yards.

St. Anne’s-Belfield 26, VES 7

Two weeks ago in their home opener, the Saint Anne’s Belfield football team struggled through a scoreless first half only to score 28 unanswered points en route to a 28-0 victory over Trinity Episcopal. On Friday night, the Saints employed a similar technique, scoring 26 second-half points on their way to the win against Virginia Episcopal School.

Bennett King provided the Bishops with their only highlight of the night, returning an interception 10 yards for a first-quarter touchdown. Tylden Mosby kicked the extra point for VES (0-5).

Staunton River 34, Lord Botetourt 10

DALEVILLE — Meech Coles ran for 138 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries to lead the Golden Eagles (4-3, 1-0) to a Blue Ridge District win over the Cavaliers (2-5, 0-1).

Cody Jones ran for 118 yards and two TDs on nine carries for Staunton River. Trevian White also ran for a TD.

Evan Bourne ran for 206 yards and a touchdown on 30 carries for the Cavaliers.
