UVa's London will face Richmond in season-opener

The ACC football schedule was released Thursday for the 2010 season. As is tradition, the Virginia-Virginia Tech rivalry game will be held on Thanksgiving weekend — Saturday, Nov. 27.

For Virginia, the other big matchup in conference play will be an Oct. 9 date with Georgia Tech, which hired former head coach Al Groh as its defensive coordinator. Groh seemed to have the Yellow Jackets number with his defensive schemes, but now he’ll turn his focus on the ’Hoos, and a personnel system that he knows well.

In non-conference play, the Cavs open their schedule with another game affected by offseason coaching moves as Mike London takes on his former team, the Richmond Spiders. Virginia has scheduled two games against FCS opponents, the other coming against VMI. If the Cavs win both games, only one would count toward bowl eligibility.

Sandwiched between those two games is a trip to perennial power USC in Los Angeles. The Trojans opened their season in Charlottesville two years ago in a game the Cavs would like to forget — this time they’ll be taking on new USC coach Lane Kiffin.
