So far, so good.
In a nutshell, that’s how Virginia women’s soccer coach Steve Swanson feels through four games of the season.
Tonight, UVa (3-0-1) hosts Richmond at 5:30 in the second game of a triple-header at Klockner Stadium. The Virginia Tech and St. John’s men’s teams kick everything off at 2:30. Meanwhile, the Virginia men play UAB in the last game of the evening at approximately 8 p.m.
The seventh-ranked Virginia women are coming off a nice road trip last weekend.
The Cavaliers played No. 11 Penn State to a 1-1 draw, then beat Connecticut 1-0. Those performances came on the heels of overpowering wins over Liberty (4-0) and Colgate (6-0) in their first two games of the season.
“Last weekend was certainly a good test,” Swanson said. “We felt we played well the majority of the time. We felt we could have had two wins, we could have had two draws, we could have had two losses.
“It was a good tournament and a good environment for us to kind of see where we are.”
Swanson is hoping tonight’s game proves to be a good springboard for next weekend when his team plays Texas and Boston University in the Virginia Nike Soccer Classic.
“They’re tough,” said Swanson, referring to Richmond. “We expect a very difficult game. We played them in the spring and they were very good and very organized.
“We have to be on top of our game, that’s for sure. But I’m excited that we’re back at home. I think, obviously, playing with the men [as part of the triple-header] — that will be a great atmosphere.”
