Lynchburg scored four runs in the first inning Tuesday night, and led the whole way, racking up 14 hits and 11 runs in an 11-5 victory over the Dash.
With the win, the Hillcats snapped a seven-game losing streak at BB&T Ballpark in Winston-Salem where they had not won since May 5. The win also snapped a current three-game skid.
A night after getting outscored 18-3 in a doubleheader, Lynchburg jumped on the Dash early. With two outs, Christian Bethancourt drove in two runs with an RBI single to put Lynchburg in the driver’s seat. Geraldo Rodriguez and Keenan Wiley followed with a pair of RBI singles.
Lynchburg added a pair of runs in the second, two more in the fourth and took an 11-4 lead with three runs in the sixth.
Eliecer Cardenas came in the fifth and picked up the win. He tossed a season-high 4 1/3 innings and held the Dash scoreless up until the ninth inning.
The two teams wrap up their series tonight at 7 p.m. in Winston-Salem. Southpaw pitcher Dimasther Delgado (8-6) will start for the Hillcats and Winston-Salem will counter with another left-hander, Matt Wickswat (5-3).
